Costume Rules
Competitors must wear suitable dancewear that is age-appropriate, secure, and suitable for movement.
Minimal sparkle or sequins are permitted, but costumes must not include excessive gems, rhinestones, feathers, or anything that could fall off during the routine. Outfits must be appropriate for the dancer’s age category and the Street Dance style being performed.
Suitable footwear must be worn. Bare feet are not permitted for Street Dance teams unless agreed with CUO in advance.
Routine Length
Intro & Beginner: Maximum 2 minutes
Intermediate: Maximum 2 minutes 30 seconds
Advanced: Maximum 3 minutes
A team must have a minimum of 5 dancers and a maximum of 35 dancers, performing a Street Dance-style choreographed routine to music of their choice.
Music
Prepared music must be submitted 7 days prior to the event.
Schools must also bring a backup copy of their music on the day.
Music must be age-appropriate. No bad language, offensive content, or inappropriate themes are permitted. Points may be deducted if the music is considered unsuitable.
Choreography
Teachers must not use set choreography published by Calling U Out within their team routines.
If more than 2 counts of 8 of recognised CUO choreography is used, points may be deducted.
Choreography must be age-appropriate and suitable for the ability level entered. Inappropriate movement is not permitted.
Lifts, Aerial Moves & Safety
Lifts and supported movements are permitted where they are controlled, safe, and appropriate to the ability level and age of the dancers.
Aerial moves are permitted in Intermediate and Advanced categories only. These must be performed safely, be suitable for the dancers’ ability, and remain within the context of the routine.
All aerial moves, lifts, and supported movements are performed at the dancers’ own risk.
Props
Props are permitted; however, they must be safe, quick to set up and remove, and must not leave anything on the performance area.
Items such as glitter, dust, powder, liquid, or anything requiring clean-up are not permitted.
Age Categories
75% of the team must be within the age category entered.
Up to 25% of the team may be above the age category. Calculations are always rounded up.
Adults must compete in the adult section.
CUO reserves the right to merge categories where there are fewer than 3 teams in a category.
Team Entry Rules
Dancers may only compete in one Street Dance team and for one school at the same event.
If this rule is broken, all teams concerned may be disqualified.
Each school may enter multiple teams in each division, but each team must have a unique team name. Please do not use the name of your school as the team name.
All dancers within a team must train with and represent the same school. Any evidence of poaching dancers or entering dancers from another school may result in disqualification.
Teachers Dancing With Students
If a teacher dances with their students, the team must be entered into Intermediate or Advanced, depending on the ability of the routine and dancers.
Sideline Coaching
Teachers, parents, and supporters must not coach, demonstrate, count, or intervene from the sidelines once the music has started, unless permission has been given by the event organisers.
Judges’ Criteria
Judges will score each team from 1 to 10 in each of the following categories, giving a total score out of 50:
